Rising Supercars’ star Anton De Pasquale has scored a third straight ARMOR ALL Pole Position with a record lap in Darwin.
The 25-year-old #11 Shell V-Power Ford Mustang driver was a class above in qualifying that determined the grid for this afternoon’s 12th race of the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship.
It’s the third successive ARMOR ALL Pole Position for the driver brought in to replace qualifying king Scott McLaughlin at the Ford powerhouse squad.
De Pasquale’s lap time broke McLaughlin’s record at Hidden Valley by 0.2 of a second.
That record has matched a 30-year-old mark set by Supercars Hall of Fame inductee, Mark Skaife.
Four years before De Pasquale was born, Skaife scored his first three poles in a row at Mallala, Lakeside and Oran Park en route to his maiden title.
Starting alongside De Pasquale in this afternoon’s race will be in-form veteran Mark Winterbottom, who has won four previous races in Darwin.
Behind the top two will be Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen, alongside Frosty’s teammate Scott Pye.
Some big names will also start from the back of the grid, including De Pasquale’s teammate Will Davison, Bathurst 1000 winner David Reynolds, and his Kelly Grove Ford teammate Andre Heimgartner, who was slowest in qualifying.
The record for the lowest grid position by a race winner at Hidden Valley dates back to the inaugural event in 1998. Russell Ingall started from 13th on the grid on that occasion.
This afternoon’s 38-lap race will commence at 3:55pm AEST.
This weekend’s Merlin Darwin Triple Crown will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and the Seven Network and streamed on Kayo.
