In 2019 the Ford Mustang will replace the Ford Falcon Supercar!
Leading the development of the Mustang Supercars is DJR Team Penske in conjunction with Ford Performance in the US & the Melbourne-based Tickford Racing.
With a heading “Ford Fans, say hello to your 2019 Supercars Challenger” the Blue camouflage liveried car appeared on DJR Team Penske’s Social Media offering the first look at the new-for-2019 race car.
Today, DJR Team Penske are with the Mustang at Queensland Raceway for its 1st of 3 homologation test days, that permit a single car to be on the track. Supercars championship leader Scott McLaughlin and teammate Fabian Coulthard are also at the track sharing the drive.
“The test program is expected to include a day at Phillip Island later this week, allowing the team to gain a better understanding of the car’s high-speed aerodynamics. Supercars’ straight-line homologation testing for the Mustang alongside a Holden Commodore ZB and Nissan Altima L33 will follow after the Coates Hire Newcastle 500.” said supercars.com.au in a press release earlier this morning.
With McLaughlin currently holding the championship lead, it will be interesting to see if he can send the Falcon off with a Drivers Championship at the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 on November 23-25.
